If I don't eat broccoli stalks, is it a better deal to just buy the crowns?

Yes I know I should be eating the stalks too, but sometimes i just don't want to! What's smartest for my dollar?

If I don't eat broccoli stalks, is it a better deal to just buy the crowns?
it probably evens out in the long run. You save money and waste by not chopping the crowns up but paying more per pound than the regular broccoli.

Buying the regular broccoli costs less per pound but you have to chop it up yourself. I say buy whatevers on sale that week.
Reply:Generally, broccoli is cheaper when bought whole, instead of just the crown. You're basically paying someone to cut the stalk off for you. Check the prices at your grocer.

Just remove the stalk and trash it or if you have a dog, give him a few pieces to munch on. My dogs love veggies! I also toss unused pieces of vegetables into my compost pile.

Take care!
Reply:no, cause just for cutting and throwing away the stalks, the grocery store cahrges a couple of dollors more. you can cut and throw them yourself and get the same result and save yourself a couple of bucks. and when you feel like eating them, then you have them to eat.
Reply:DUH, Okay, when you aren't going to EAT SOMETHING, its OBVIOUSLY, a BETTER DEAL, if you DON"T BUY IT
Reply:I've never seen them sold without the stalks before - but if you can buy them that way, then do it!
Reply:I really don't know any place that just sells broccoli crowns. Birds, rabbits and guinea pigs like the stalks though.
Reply:i find that buying just the crowns is better. you pay to not have the stalks on them.
Reply:I've never seen any sold without stalks.
Reply:just buy the crown
Reply:find a partner who use to eat stalks only. so that both of u can share the expenses.
