Why do root canals and crowns have to be so darned expensive?

Somebody's gotta pay for all that college....

Back in the old days, dentistry was done at the local barber shop...true story.

"A little off the top and a root canal, please"

Why do root canals and crowns have to be so darned expensive?
Unfortunately, The materials and the equipment the dentists have to purchase are VERY expensive. A lab fee on a crown can run up to $200 and the impression material alone cost up to $100 per impression. The drill they use runs anywhere from $600 to $1000. Root canal material and equipment is even worse. The dental chair you sit in is about $15,000 to $20,000. This doesn't include the building or staff salaries or utilities (commercial utilities cost more than household.) or the cost of the dentists education ($100,000 +). So dont think that the dentists are making a killing because most of them arent.

but if you need root canal work go to an Endodontists (Root Canal Specialist)

they spend another 2-3 years studying the pulp and canals so they will be able to do it a lot better.

i had to have a retreat because my general dentist didn't do it right.

i hope you are ok
