Which is more expensive - porcelain veneers or crowns ?

i have stains on some of my front teeth and i was wondering which is generally cheaper?

Which is more expensive - porcelain veneers or crowns ?
The other answerers were correct....veneers are more expensive...but veneers are not the be all to end all.....and you should visit a dentist to consult on YOUR situation.
Reply:They're both generally the same price. $1100+ per tooth. Insurance usually won't cover veneers because they are considered cosmetic. Sometimes insurance covers crowns, but if you're only having them done to change the color then they may not cover the crowns either.
Reply:What kind of stains?

Some stains can be easily removed.

Do crowns have any monetary value?

I have several crown coins celebrating the Queens Silver Jubilee and wonder if they have any value and if so what can I do with them?

Do crowns have any monetary value?
Jubilee crowns have a face value of 25p and are legal tender for that amount. Some more recent commemorative "crowns" are actually £5 coins and their face value is marked on them. If they are in good condition, their collectors' value is higher.

If you want to get rid of them, you can pay them in at the bank for their face value. If you think they are in collectable condition, put them on eBay.

What kind of dentist does dental crowns?

Your family dentist can do crowns. If you are concerned about the quality of his work ask to see pictures and talk to other patients about crowns they have received. If your dentist doesn't want to share information you may want to go elsewhere.

What kind of dentist does dental crowns?
A Royal Dentist

Any dentist should be able to do it, if your not sure, just call them up and ask.
Reply:All dentists do crowns. They're very expensive. Ask around for someone who has gotton good crowns from what dentist.

Some dentists / labs do better jobs than others. My sister's could always make recommendations because they were hygienists and could see how well they were made.
Reply:All licensed dentists should do this procedure, this is not a specialization.
Reply:All general dentists know how to do crowns, most do them, and some may refer you to a prosthodontist if it's a difficult case.

Too late to change color of porcelain crowns?

I got a two porcelain crowns last week from the dentis (on teeth # 4 and 5), and they don't match my real teeth.. they're too yellow! I have a follow up appointment next week, is it too late for him to change the color??

Too late to change color of porcelain crowns?
Go back to your dentist and have him look at the shading. The color will look different if seen under fluorescent light than it will look under incandescent lightening. The best is to look under natural lighting conditions. Matching shades is really an art and sometimes a mistake can be made. If that was the case, he should re make them for no charge. But you will have to go through the procedure again. New impressions, temporary crowns, etc. To bad it wasn't spotted before cementing them on. They could have just been sent back to the lab and re-made. Good luck.
Reply:yes maybe so because they are cememted the cement is so strong that most times they have to be drilled out , which means they would be damaged and you would have to pay for new ones, usually your dentist should show the crowns before cemeted in to see if your happy with them then if your not they can send them back and get the colour changed, so yeah all you can do now is tell your dentist and see what they can do
Reply:There should not be a problem with you dentist changing out your Crowns tell him you are unhappy with the color of your teeth (CROWN) and you would like them to be removed and the color changed...If he is a caring Dr he will...may half to go 2 or three days with out your crowns but hey why pay for something if you dont like it right?

Will my temporary dental crowns look ugly or fall out while I'm waiting for the permanent porcelain ones?

I'm worried that the temporary ones will look ugly or fall out during the three weeks it takes for the lab to make the permanent ones. They're for my two upper front teeth.

Will my temporary dental crowns look ugly or fall out while I'm waiting for the permanent porcelain ones?
The dentist should/will do everything he can to make the temps look as natural as he can. They glue them in pretty snug, so unless you're eating things you're not suppose to, they will stay in place until the permanent crowns are ready.
Reply:No, your will look fine and nobody will notice.. Don't chew gum or anything sticky like a fruit roll up. It might pull it right off. But again, NO ONE WILL NOTICE.... They look just like your other teeth. I swear!!
Reply:Just do not eat pop corn or nuts or anything that might pull it off.
Reply:im afraid yes. i also had one when i was younger. but it only took around 5 days here in the philippines.

the temporary ones are white because they are made on the spot for you to wear it once you get out of the clinic. but fortunately they did not fall out.
Reply:Your temporary crowns will be made chair side and Your dentist will not let you leave looking bad.... your mouth is a reflection of them. You temporaries will be made of acrylic. The same thing that fake nails are made of. They will be white.... maybe not as white as your own but it is only for three week. They should not come out as long as you don't chew anything chewy or sticky so stay away from the Carmel's..... If they do come out call your dentist and they will get you in an re cement them ASAP... I assist for these EVERYDAY.... I have never had an unhappy patient. good luck.
Reply:No the temporary will look nice but its a chance that it will fall out if you are not careful and follow your discharge instructions as they were given....They are cemented with temporary cement so they dont last that long only a week or two at the most!
Reply:Try Superglue
Reply:yes
Reply:You could always try duct tape or super glue.lol
Reply:Not at all! The temporaries are made from a composite material (very much like the material used in an anterior filling) and shaded to match your own tooth color. I've made bridges, veneers and upper and lower crowns for all anterior teeth. Most people don't want to get the real crown, they fit and feel so good. The average person can't tell they are temporaries. They are made from an impression of what your natural tooth looked like, so it will be an exact replica. Except if you've broken your natural tooth, then we just have to adjust a little to make it look like it is suppose to look. They aren't ugly, and don't fall off. We use some pretty tough cement to fit them temporarily, you have to do your part of coarse, no gum or chewing sticky tough foods. We usually have to use hemostats to remove them when you come back in. So unless you plan on smacking some gum, eating bunches of candy bars or crunching on some nuts, then you should be safe. Hope I've cleared this up, I should know, I've made thousands of them!
Reply:No they won't look ugly and they won't fall out. I had temps put in which lasted four months, (most insurances didn't cover crowns back then so I was saving up the money).
Reply:no i have made a temp crown myself working in the dentists office they wont fall out if you dont chew gum or tear foods off the bone with your teeth cut apples cut chicken etc nothing chewy or sticky they tell you ya can eat anything but their in there with a temp cement so... they will be fine eat gently.. avoid hot hot teas and coffees as this may loosen the cement.. and if it does save the temp crown no matter what.. and see the dentist in an emergency appt usually the hygenist can temp cement a crown in .. and it will be no charge but after perm ones are in it can be 30 -4 0 for a cement.. so if it fall sout at work take dentemp from the toothpaste section at your pharmacy an keep it close by .. if they fall out u can glue it on ur self at work until u get to the dentist.. make sure u fit it 1st so u know which way it goes on then glue it in with the dentemp.. its about 5 bux but buy it now.. keep all this in mind as it happens....they sand ur teeth down like the size of a tic tac so the crown can fit over it.. reason u dont want it to be loose as it if comes off some people swallow it some people can get the tooth under exposed to decay if they go without it for too long and if u have it come off for more than 2 days ur teeth shift from chewing that the crown may not fit so be aware of this as well..
Reply:They won''t look like the real ones but they will get you by without humiliating yourself. Don't bite into any thing hard and you should be fine
Reply:DON"T USE SUPER GLUE! They're temporary for a reason. They're not going to look perfect but, they shouldn't be ugly. Sometimes they do fall out. If this happens you can always call the office to have them seated with temp cement or if that's not an option then you can always put it in yourself with fixodent or some type of denture adhesive. If you're really in a pinch use toothpaste. Make sure you clean out the temp carefully and clean around the prepped tooth carfully. Make sure your tooth and the temporary are dry too.
Reply:No, they are not ugly and will not fall out. I had all my upper teeth crowned and had no difficulties with the temporary crowns.
Reply:they should not discolor but be careful because the cement used to hold them in is temporary so do not eat on those teeth for 3 weeks you can eat whatever you want to but not directly on them.

Is it possible to whiten crowns, bridges and other dental implants. ?

i had to have my 4 front teeth replaced with crowns and a bridge after an accident when i was 19. i'm 30 now and all the coffee drinking is starting to show.

Is it possible to whiten crowns, bridges and other dental implants. ?
its probably time to change those babies!! but the older finishes are tricky, your not suppose to try to whiten them. the dentist now uses a blue light laser, but somehow i'm sure they will talk to you about replacement. if you do replace them. you can get a whiten plate made by the dentist and the new caps can come in an all solid type glass. they look really really great too. i know, i have them.

i too had the same problem. so the whiten trays they make at the dentist really help a lot and that extra coffee that spills over onto the caps will whiten up to where they are suppose to be. i hope this helps.

cosmetic dentist!!!!
Reply:If your bridge is removable use a product made by SEA-BOND called denture brightening cleanser AVOID getting on metal though. Greatstain remover.
Reply:the only way you can whiten them is to have them replaced. when they are made, they are made the color of your teeth at the time.

Can we design dental crowns for our dentist?

My friend has 10 upper dental crowns and the rest of the teeth are natural. He does not like the dental crowns. They look too straight and white. So it looks fake....

My friend saw some natural teeth's shape that he likes. Can he bring the pictures of the natural teeth that he used to have to the dentist. And the dentist prepares the dental crowns following to the shape and shade of the natural teeth of somebody else?

Is that possible for people to have dental crowns that look exactly like their natural teeth? Not too thick and big...

Can we design dental crowns for our dentist?
Sure. The dentist and technician ought to love it if they have a model (picture) to go by, so long as your friend's teeth happen to be in the right location to support the shape of teeth that he wants. If the dentist says it can't be done, it's time to look for someone with a more open mind.

Then again, this can be a red flag indicating exceedingly high expectations and the dentist might say it can't be done just so he will move on to another office. But, yes, it can be done.
Reply:Your friend is either rich or has the best dental plan I've ever heard of. Ask your friend to adopt me.
Reply:It is possible to have crowns made in particular shapes and shades. However, it really depends on how committed your dentist is to acheiving your goals, and how willing he is to send the work to a high-quality,specialty lab that will work to get the best result. Sadly, most dentists send their lab cases to high volume, low-quality labs in their area that will do the work for the least cost to the dentist. If your friend wants to avoid that "fake" look, they should try to find a Prosthodontist in the area. A Prosthodontist is a specialist that has 3-4 more years of dental education. They usually do work on patients that require complete dental restoration. In your friends case, 10 new upper crowns would qualify as a possible "complete" restoration. Although it is not possible to replicate the look of "natural" teeth with crowns, a Prosthodontist would be the expert your friend should consult to have the BEST chance of looking the absolute best.
Reply:Sure you can get what you want, if your dentist don't want to do that, find another.

Do crowns normally feel "tight" when they first put them on?

There is plenty of space between my teeth, but my tooth feels alittle tightness.

Do crowns normally feel "tight" when they first put them on?
I had a crown put on a few months ago. I was tight at first and a little different when you bite down on food. Give it some time and it will not feel so tight.

How long do I have to wait for dental insurance to get my crowns??

I suppose to get 2 crowns and we told that to insurance on Febuary %26amp; its already April!!!

people who had this problem, how long did you wait??

can I get them any faster??

How long do I have to wait for dental insurance to get my crowns??
No, you can't get them any faster and still have the insurance cover them.

The waiting period will vary by company. The plans that I'm aware of the waiting period for full benefits can be 12 to 36 months. Some plans will have shorter or no waiting period but will only pay 10% or so of the cost.

Most, but not all, plans have a deductible and then crowns will be covered at 50% after the waiting period.
Reply:Many insurers have waiting periods on new policies before certain procedures are covered. Check your policy terms.
Reply:If it's a private policy, it can be a year, or even more. No one here can possibly know - you'll have to read your policy, or call the company.

BTW, usually it will pay HALF of the cost of the crowns. Good luck, the last two I got I ended up out of pocket - after insurance - $1400.

I have some commemorate crowns (coins) Anybody know what they are worth?
There's a lot of them around and they are mostly worth their face value (25p for the older ones, £5 for the newer ones). To have a higher collectors value, they need to be in mint condition. That means no atmospheric corrosion - they've got to be bright (but don't use Brasso - the experts can tell!)

If i cracked my tooth but nothing fell off, what should i do? Veneers or Crowns?

Last week i hit my tooth playing a sport. it cracked in 3 places, but nothing fell off. I had pain and it was loose for the first 2 days and now i have no pain, and the looseness is gradually tightening. I have perfect teeth and i am worried that eventually the cracks would get bigger through time and it would fall off. It is my front tooth. I am going to see several cosmetic dental surgeons, however i would like to know from people who have had this experience before what to do? If necessary should i consider veneers or dental crowns? i have a very nice smile and i am very concerned...

If i cracked my tooth but nothing fell off, what should i do? Veneers or Crowns?
DEPENDING ON THE CRACKS, VENEERS MAY BE INDICATED.

IN COSMETIC DENTISTRY THERE IS A RULE OF 2,4,6, ETC. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT YOU ONLY SEE CRACKS IN ONE, YOU WILL LOOK BETTER IN THIS CASE TO HAVE BOTH FRONT TEETH VENEERED.
Reply:Such situations like yours with cracked tooth are tricky to tell without physical exam. You may opt for veneers to start with. But it would be known at the time of tooth preparation whether you may have to settle for crown as it covers from all sides.
Reply:I think price wise your looking about the same for both. I talked to my dentist recently about veneers because the bottom of one of my front teeth chipped. He said he would recommend veneers, but he would advise I do both front teeth, not just the one. So you might need to fix both, so they look the same. But it also depends on your teeth I guess.
Reply:#1 Make sure you have a dental plan or get a new one

with no waiting periods, see below.

Do white gold dental crowns exist? Where can I get one?

I'm just curious, do they exist? Do they stand up as well yellow gold crowns? Where is a lab that makes them? I may be needing a crown soon on one of my back teeth. I just think white gold looks better/doesn't stand out as much.

Do white gold dental crowns exist? Where can I get one?
Yes, white gold exists for dental crowns. They are every bit as good as yellow gold crowns. It's just a slightly different alloy. Talk to your dentist, and he can make sure his lab has the alloy available. Gold crowns (white or yellow) interact very well with natural teeth because the alloy is smooth and of similar hardness to natural teeth. I always prefer gold crowns for the very back teeth where there is little room for the thickness of porcelain.

Personally, I think the white gold will just look like a big silver filling, and look cheap. People associate yellow gold in the mouth with expensive treatment. So your friends might not realise that you've got white gold.
Reply:Check with your dentist, his lab may do it....also...there are so many newer titanium based materials....very hard!! and tooth colored, with a white metal underlay......
Reply:THERE ARE NO SUCH THING AS WHITE GOLD CROWNS OR ANY THERE ARE SILVER AND PROC-ELIN BUT NO REAL GOLD..SWEETY ... AND BESIDES THAT WILL LOOK KIND OF TACKY IF YOU JUST ONE WHITE GOLD TOOTH..OR CROWN
Reply:there are porcelain, gold and silver. all white gold is gold dipped in rodium plating so no there isnt any
Reply:Just ask your dentist. A guy at my job just got one so Yes, they do exist.

When getting a bridge, how does the dentist 'prepare' the adjacent teeth to be covered by the crowns?

like in what way, by drilling? how do they exactly make the teeth smaller or whatver?

When getting a bridge, how does the dentist 'prepare' the adjacent teeth to be covered by the crowns?
They grind it like they would a crown. The only difference is that they have to make sure the path of draw is the same so they can slide the bridge on.
Reply:I have a bridge and my wife is a dental hygienist. Since the teeth are free of decay they just need to drill the enamel down enough to prepare the tooth for a crown. They use the drill to make the teeth smaller so the crown looks and feels natural. A bridge is not as strong as your original teeth but I have not had a problem with breaking it. I have had trouble with my gums receding above the fake teeth. You may want to ask your dentist about implants. They are a little more expensive but you do not have to worry about bone loss in the teeth that are lost. If not just be careful not to brush too hard. I think that was what caused some of my trouble.
Reply:They grind down the outside enamel of the tooth so a crown can fit over it.
Reply:The dentist shaves your teeth down so that they are smaller and the bridge can fit over them. They look pretty ugly shaved down and all but they will be covered by the bridge anyway.

Is it true that all teeth that have crowns on them will need a root canal one day?

I read this somewhere on the net

Is it true that all teeth that have crowns on them will need a root canal one day?
No that is not true but if you have a root canal chances are you may need a crown in the future
Reply:who knows-i have dentures-yeah 2 more points
Reply:It depends. If u get pain or swelling on that tooth in future will need root canal treatment. U put the crown bcause of a small chip or fracture definitly there is no need for RCT.
Reply:It depend on how good your dentist is. Some people people had crowns but still there tooth got messed up inside (hope you got what I mean). I friend of mine just went in to this other dentist coz her original doctor was on vacation and this second doctor told her that she needed to remove her crown and have her tooth root canaled because it has dental carries from the inside. She didn't believe it at first until the 2nd doctor showed her the Xrays (she showed it to her original doctor too) . My point is try to find a really good doctor before entrusting your teeth it sucks paying double and going through the pain... and yeah you could have root canal even if you have crown.
Reply:not likely
Reply:No
Reply:yes it means all models with crowns on them will need grave-yard one day ... i heard from my friend.

Are the broccoli crowns healthier than the stalks?

In terms of all the goodness that comes with eating broccoli, are the crowns more nutritious than the stems/stalks?

Are the broccoli crowns healthier than the stalks?
i would say yes. i dont know any one that eats the stalks. i just throw them away.
Reply:The stalks have a lot of fiber which is really good for you. I chop them up and throw them into soups, as they can be tougher than the crowns but add nice body to soups. Report Abuse

I was flossing my teeth and the gums next to one of my crowns started to bleed. Not just a little! For a?

few minutes I was looking like a vampire after a hearty meal. It has stopped bleeding now and doesn't hurt. What happened? And should I do anything about it?

I was flossing my teeth and the gums next to one of my crowns started to bleed. Not just a little! For a?
Yes, you should see your Dentist. Bleeding is a sign of Periodontal (gum) diseases. It is a serious infection and if left untreated, can lead to tooth loss.

In the mildest form of the disease, gingivitis, the gums redden, swell and bleed easily. There is usually little or no discomfort. Gingivitis is often caused by inadequate oral hygiene. Gingivitis is reversible with professional treatment and good oral home care. See the site below for more information

http://www.perio.org/consumer/2a.html
Reply:you should consult your dentist. there are many causes of bleeding gums, so the best thing to do is to find out the real cause for your case in order to get the right treatment. http://www.oramd.com/cause-for-bleeding-... list of various causes, and you can try to search for helpful natural remedies through this site. Does anyone know how many Karats of gold dentists have to make gold crowns? Is it 10,14, or 24?

i dont know but i did hear they were going to stop using gold in teeth cause of the price

Does anyone know how many Karats of gold dentists have to make gold crowns? Is it 10,14, or 24?
id say it was a low karat, gold is a soft metal, the lower the number the more other metal is mixed with the gold making it harder!

you wouldn't want your gold tooth bending all out of shape!
Reply:10-the higher the karat, the softer the metal.

Does Celerity Sexy tooth whitener act with veneers, & crowns?

I have crowns on all my top teeth. Would this product color these just like the bottom teeth? I have a friend who's bottom teeth are much whiter than the top. Don't know what she used though. Thank you.

Does Celerity Sexy tooth whitener act with veneers, %26amp; crowns?
No whitening product will change the color of porcelain crowns %26amp; veneers or composite fillings. The only way to change the color of those is to get new ones.
Reply:I had the dentist give me a bleach treatment for whitening teeth.. It worked fine but the bonding on my teeth was guarenteed to fall apart so of course I had to get rebonded.
Reply:Nope, it can only change the color of natural teeth none that are artificial will be affected by the product.

What pitcher won 3 consecutive triple crowns?

Grover Alexander in 1915,1916, and 1917.

What pitcher won 3 consecutive triple crowns?
Bob Gibson St. Lious Cardnals
Reply:Sandy Koufax
Reply:There has never been a pitcher that won the Major League Triple Crown in 3 consecutive years. Only two have won back to back titles, Lefty Grove (1930 %26amp; 1931) and Sandy Koufax (1965 %26amp; 1966).

Now, if you only care about one league and not all of baseball then Grover Alexander won 3 consecutive Triple Crowns in the National League from 1915 - 1917. But, personally I wouldn't count it. He won the Major League Triple Crown in both 1915 and 1917, but in 1916 he only won the National Leage Triple Crown. Walter Johnson, pitching for the Washington Senators in the American League that year, finished the season with 228 K's. That broke up Alexander's bid for the Major League Triple Crown that year, he finshed with only 167 K's.

So like I said no one has ever won the Major League Triple Crown in 3 consecutive years, but I guess you could count Grover Alexander if you're willing to count the fact that it was just the National League Triple Crown for 3 consecutive years.

And just as a point of interest Sandy Koufax came remarkably close to winning the Major League Triple Crown 4 years in a row. He won it in 1963, 1965, and 1966. In 1964 he won the ERA title, and he only needed 3 more wins to pass Jaun Marichal, and only 28 more K's to pass Bob Veale. Had he gotten those 3 wins and 28 K's that year he would have won the Crown 4 years in a row. Wow.

Here's a quick list of the Triple Crown winners (ptiching and hitting for both the AL and NL as well as the Major League champs).

How much would 12 porcelain crowns cost?

and why is dental work so expensive?

How much would 12 porcelain crowns cost?
Dental work isn't really all that expensive. You really do get value for money with most dental work. It does depend on where you live, for example crowns are going to be like 3x that amount in beverly hills with fancy dentists since the market can bare that.

One crown for a front tooth (all porcelain) can cost up to 2000 dollars if you live in an expensive place. My crown (for implant) is going to be 8-12 hundred.

Yeah, its expensive, but it takes time and know-how to figure out just what will look best in your mouth.
Reply:Porcelain crowns can cost anywhere from $500 to about $1200, depending on where you get your dental work done. The office that I work at charges $900 per crown, but if you have insurance, they typically will pay for half of their approved cost if you stay within the network.

I wish I had an answer for why dental work is so expensive...
Reply:For me, I asked my dentist for a discount and was charged $300 per crown. It varies depending on where you go and is usually in the $300 - $500 range.

Why do root canals and crowns have to be so darned expensive?

Somebody's gotta pay for all that college....

Back in the old days, dentistry was done at the local barber shop...true story.

"A little off the top and a root canal, please"

Why do root canals and crowns have to be so darned expensive?
Unfortunately, The materials and the equipment the dentists have to purchase are VERY expensive. A lab fee on a crown can run up to $200 and the impression material alone cost up to $100 per impression. The drill they use runs anywhere from $600 to $1000. Root canal material and equipment is even worse. The dental chair you sit in is about $15,000 to $20,000. This doesn't include the building or staff salaries or utilities (commercial utilities cost more than household.) or the cost of the dentists education ($100,000 +). So dont think that the dentists are making a killing because most of them arent.
Reply:the first person has it right

but if you need root canal work go to an Endodontists (Root Canal Specialist)

they spend another 2-3 years studying the pulp and canals so they will be able to do it a lot better.

Aren't there any dental offices that actually make the porcelain crowns right on the premises?

It sucks because you have to wait so long for the lab to make them, then if they aren't right they have to be sent back to the lab forcing you to wear temporaries for another two weeks. It is such a long process. I have to have my two front ones done and wearing temporaries for a month is torture, I've done it before.

Aren't there any dental offices that actually make the porcelain crowns right on the premises?
Yes, some dentists have the CEREC setup by Sirona. CEREC is a computer-controlled porcelain milling system that can cut a porcelain crown out of a block using a 3-D milling machine while you wait. (Takes about 20 minutes to mill a complete crown). A dentist would scan the tooth he shaved down to receive a crown using the CEREC scanner, and the CEREC system will try to digitize the tooth shape from the scan and mill a crown to fit.

This technology is still in its maturing stages though, and takes quite a bit of tweaking to get it to work right. I suspect in another decade or so it should be mature enough that more dentists would equip their practices with it.

For tech-head patients who wants to know how the CEREC system works: http://www.cereconline.com/ecomaXL/index...
Reply:Tom, does Cerec work out okay for central incisors? I had the impression that the shade was monoblock and not suitable for truly esthetic results. I'll check back...
Reply:about one in ten dentists has a cerec now. and that would probably also be the top ten percent in skilled dentists also. i can tell that was an older dentist that answered before. the technology produces a much higher quality crown at a faster speed. the older ways of making crowns is just about obsolete. in my office anyways.
Reply:i have two cerec's on our office and love them (they are quite easy to use-the cda's usually design the tooth), but we don't use them for front teeth. the blocks are monotone, but you can get graduated ones. we prefer our patients go to the lab for custom shades on anterior teeth.

i'm just wondering why your dentist is using a lab that takes a month. a week for a local lab or tops 10 days for the out of town one.

i guess we're just cooler up in canada -literally. :)

I have two 40 years ago. so no worries go for it.

How long do gold tooth crowns last?
I'VE HAD PATIENTS IN MY OFFICE THAT HAVE HAD CROWNS FOR 30-40+ YEARS. IT ALSO IS A KEY WITH THE CARE YOU GIVE THE CROWN. GOLD IS THE IDEAL MATERIAL FOR TOOTH RESTORATIONS.
Reply:Should last a long time, unless as in my case it kept coming loose and falling out! After spending all that money, I opted for an amalgum filling, instead, and that was maybe 10 yaers ago!
Reply:I've had 2 gold crowns for 15 years. the gold wears off easily comparing to ceramic. When they removed them there was a tiny hole on one of the crowns...

How many dental crowns can one person have?

No limit. The only problem might be that the tooth under the crown may slowly deteriorate and than there will be no useful tooth material left to hold a crown. A good crown can hold over 20 years. It is really depends on the oral hygiene and good genes and a great dentist, how many crowns someone needs and how long they may last.

During dentist visit your dentist may discover that your crown is leaking, no longer seals perfectly, at that point your crown needs to be replaced.

My crown is over 20 years old, good as new, the tooth had no root canal.

How many dental crowns can one person have?
FYI,

every time a tooth is prepared for a new crown a little more is taken away until there is very little tooth left. This can be done with each tooth.

There is normally 32 teeth, 28 if there's no wisdom teeth.

So answer to your question depends on how many teeth you have left
Reply:Hello, back when I specialized in full mouth Crown %26amp; Bridge reconstruction I created a crown for every tooth the patient had and on more than one occasion that meant 28 units....a full mouth minus the wisdom teeth.
Reply:I would assume one could have as many crowns as one has teeth.

How many different crowns and rewards will there be during or after judgement?

"Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done," Revelation 22:12. The rewards are spiritual in nature. The greatest of these is God's divine agape love and closeness to Him. This is known as bliss. It is love beyond anything you can possibly image.

My temporary crowns are big and dingy. Also, the side of one just looks horrible unsmooth and fake.?

Should I ask the dentist to fix it? Actually, it'd be the Denist's assistant. Which I think it would've looked better if the dentist actually did it.

Or should I just tough it out until the real porcelan crowns come in from the lab.

FYI, the temp. crowns are on my two front teeth.

Thank you.

My temporary crowns are big and dingy. Also, the side of one just looks horrible unsmooth and fake.?
either plan on not smiling or call up your dentist and have them fix them. your temporary crowns should be a "trial run" of your permanent crowns and they should look very similar to what the final crowns would look like in terms of shape, size, contour and color.

Is there a difference in the effect of whitening strips on natural teeth, crowns and fillings?

Whitening strips or any whitening agent will not change the shade of crowns, veneers, or fillings. They only work on enamel.

Is there a difference in the effect of whitening strips on natural teeth, crowns and fillings?
Yes, you should see a dentist because the whitening strips may cause discoloration to your crowns, depending on the materials. You want to make sure the shade matches.
Reply:sincerely the one that is born with a good calcium in the teeth single to cepillar itself with a good dental cream. the others are life in my country to do that here is expensive and expensive
Reply:Your natural teeth are the only thing that will bleach. Crowns and fillings do not bleach.
Reply:Yes ... the stains on your natural teeth are usually shallow and the bleaching agent can whiten them easily ... crowns are dyed to match your existing teeth and any pigmentation is through the material which is then sealed, a superficial bleaching agent is not likely to do much to it to keep up with the effect on the rest of your teeth ...
Reply:The only thing you can whiten are natural teeth. So b4 you do any restorative work. Bleach first then restore (crowns, fillings).

Opinion on Third Day and Casting Crowns?

Don't you think that it would be great to hear them on mainstream radio? Don't you think that they could really spread their message to a greater block of people in need?

Or is it that their respective labels want to keep them out of mainstream. I mean they are not in it for the money.

Any thoughts?

Opinion on Third Day and Casting Crowns?
I think you're totally right. Theres soo many Christian bands i listen to that i wish were on mainstream radio. I think it would be easier to reach out to teenagers, and everyone in general.
Reply:It would be great to hear them on mainstream radio. Casting Crowns has an awesome lead singer and the rest of the band is just GREAT!! I don't think that their labels want to keep them out though. It's all the other "Atheist" or whatever you want to call them, that demand separation. How sad that a country who's foundation was built on religion cant get people to believe. I say pack their **** and send them somewhere else. Great question. How was your thanksgiving?
Reply:I like them both - but dont know that they would fly mainstream.... and its usually up to the artist where they sillicit thier songs....when songs are big enough that they really touch everyone they do cross lines like MercyMe - I can only imagine and a few jars of clay songs have done it Stacy Orico did when she was around

It could be a good thing - but if you look back on people who really tried to play in both markets it didnt do too well for them - the ones I can think off of the bat ar Staci O. and P.O.D. both who became more influenced negatively and eventually dropped off of the map rather than moving more positively....

it may be able to work it would just need a lot of thinking and planning and changing....
Reply:No thoughts to your question, but I really appreciate your comment on mine. Thank you.

My new crowns look horrible should the dentist replace it for free??

they are big and bulky and the teeth are not leveled. they are 2 shades whiter. i had to go back after having the crowns come back to dark and too big. will my insurance company help me because he wants to fix the bite and not the color??

My new crowns look horrible should the dentist replace it for free??
wow I dont know on that one. Have you talk to the ins compy?
Reply:Temporaries are always made smaller than what the natural tooth was and patients are quick to think the permanent crowns look and feel too big. The tongue is deceiving you. Now shape and shade should be the same as others. Report Abuse

Reply:As Marie stated, see your dentist and have a "visual discussion" over this. Do give your self a few days to adjust, it may be ok due to being use to the temp. Ins Co. have nothing to do with Dentistry and won't help. Your wasting your time there. Report Abuse

Reply:Let him fix the bite or you could damage the teeth and you may approve of them then. Crown shades will look lighter or darker in different light, check in natural day light. It also depends on where and what type of crowns these are too. Report Abuse

Reply:Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 20 years. And the Ins. co has nothing to do with this. So let this go. They only pay for the crown work and they are not dentists. And they will not get in the middle. So this is a futile effort.

You need to speeak directly with the dentist in the chair with a mirror so both of you can get on the same page. One thing that bothers me is some dentists are not artists and don't see how oversized and over white teeth can be. Also the lab can make these mistakes and everyone is miserable. This is something you have to hash with him. I take phots of my patients teeth before and so they always have a realistic view of what they had and how far we can go. nd I take many impressions so they see that over sizing teeth will look terrible. This is an issue with you and your dentist. And you need a heart to heart. AND yes, if they look THAT bad, he must replace them. He should of never cemented them in the first place. IMO%26gt;get an appointment now and sit down and discuss this. His job is to do the very best he can do and you should be happy with the results. Good luck. M

Normal for crowns to wiggle a little?

I've just recently noticed that my crowns wiggle a little... is this normal? I never noticed it before. Thanks in advance!

Normal for crowns to wiggle a little?
No. Crowns should be tight. If they're starting to wiggle it may signal underlying bone loss and the teeth supporting the crowns are loosening. Have the dentist check them asap.
Reply:I assume that your crowns are permanent ones. You definitely don't want them to wiggle because food and liquid can get under them and cause major problems. I had a bridge put in quite a few years ago and flossed and kept it very very clean and the way it was cemented in I got a cavity under the front part of it and the bridge popped out and had to have a filling in the tooth and then have the bridge cemented back in.

Go back to you dentist that put them in and have them look at it to make sure there aren't any obvious reasons that they are loose.

Good Luck:-))
Reply:No. Go back to the dentist that put it on.

If it's loose, it will allow water and food to get up there.

Are my actual porcelan crowns going to look as hideous as the temporary crowns I have in now?

I have a porcelan crown and it looks like a regular tooth. They replaced my temp. crown which was a metal one.

Are my actual porcelan crowns going to look as hideous as the temporary crowns I have in now?
No (unless you have a really bad dentist/dental lab) the permanent crowns will look very natural. I have crowns on my 2 front teeth and you would never know they aren't natural unless I told you.
Reply:Not all Dental work is equal. some ae very good, others so, so I hope you have a good Dentist } lab. They should look natural for the prices they charge. Wish you the best.

This was an amazing video. One of my favorite Christian groups is Casting Crowns. I know this song, but have never watched the video. What an impact. They were banned for chronic lameness.

Is it sore getting crowns and how do you prevent tooth erosion?

If you are properly frozen then no it doesn't hurt when they are prepping the tooth for a crown. If the dentist also makes you a temporary crown while the lab is fabricating your permanent crown then no the tooth won't hurt while you wait.

Tooth erosion is a huge topic and well addressed at this website:

http://www.simplestepsdental.com/SS/ihtS...

In simple terms - quit sipping on pop/soda/juice (if you have to drink it consume it all at once or use a straw placed towards the back of your mouth (avoiding all your teeth), Lighten up on your toothbrushing or switch to a powered brush either way holding the brush in your fingertips rather than in your fist will lighten the pressure against the tooth. If you grind your teeth switch to using a nightguard/bruxing appliance (see your dentist).

Is it sore getting crowns and how do you prevent tooth erosion?
No it does not hurt as the Dr. will give you lots of Novocaine. What is strange is the grinding noise and vibrations as he works on your teeth.

Does anybody know anything about lava crowns?

I need to know how I can teach patients about lava crowns. They are the porcelin crowns with the zirconia coping inside. They are asthetic and beautiful crowns. If there are and Dentists out there or assistants or anybody in the dental field that know of these crowns and of good ways to teach patients about them some advice would be great. Thanks.

Does anybody know anything about lava crowns?

Lava Dental Crowns

Grinding your teeth, an improper bite, age, fillings and tooth decay can all be contributing factors in the wearing down, cracking or breakage of your teeth. If you suffer from this problem, dental crowns can be the solution. Dental crowns cover the entire visible surface of your affected tooth to add strength, durability and tooth stability.

Traditionally dental crowns were made of metal, more notable gold. With further development, ceramic (porcelain) dental crowns were developed to produce a more natural appearance. Significant advancements have since been made, with Lava dental crowns generating a considerable buzz in the cosmetic dentistry industry.

Lava dental crowns present an innovative computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology to produce an all-ceramic crown on a zirconia base. Lava dental crowns were created by the need for all-ceramic dental restorations in the posterior region, which is an increasingly important aspect of dental care. Until Lava dental crowns, there were no real suitable ceramics or economic processing procedures available. With the new LAVA system, it will be possible to satisfy these demands in the future.

The Lava system is based on the machining of presintered zirconia, which, due to its outstanding mechanical properties, its biocompatibility, and its excellent esthetics in combination with a specially designed veneer ceramic, is the ideal candidate for these applications. Presintering is the process of heating of a compact at a temperature below the normal final sintering temperature to increase the ease of handling or shaping the compact. Zirconia is a high-tech ceramic material that is characterized by its outstanding stability and biocompatibility, as well as strength levels that are significantly higher than other all-ceramic materials. In addition to strength, Lava all-ceramic system restorations display excellent esthetics and precise fit characteristics. In combination with a corresponding CAD/CAM unit, the use of an easy-to-machine presintered ceramic material allows for the first time a reliable, fully-automated and thus, fast manufacturing of the Lava Dental Crown.

The advantages of Lava Dental Crown is summarized:

* Excellent esthetics and translucency

* Outstanding marginal fit

* Superior strength of zirconia with high fracture resistance

* 8 shades of zirconia framework

* Ideal for 3-unit bridge applications

* Successful 3-year clinical trial

The esthetics and biocompatibility of Lava restorations represent the optimum in all-ceramic systems. Many cosmetic dentists today are shifting towards the use of Lava Dental Crowns. They are surprised by the results - Excellent clinical margin, fit and stability, and superior aesthetics. Preparations require removal of less tooth structure, and cementation can be accomplished using proven, conventional techniques.

If you want a natural and lasting change to your smile while optimizing length, rotations and alignment problems, then Lava denture crowns can reshape and whiten your teeth and improve your smile dramatically.

What do you pay for root canals and crowns?

In my office, a molar rootcanal is $850, a premolar about $750, and an anterior $650.

A porcelain fused to high nobel metal or a full gold crown are both $825 and a full porcelain is $925.

Prices will vary depending on the office. I worked in one of the chain type offices and their standard crown was $398. Of course, they were so cheaply made that within 2 years they had recurrent decay under most of them, but hey, you get what you pay for. If you pay for a $398 crown, you are going to get a $398 crown.

What do you pay for root canals and crowns?
a root canal on a molar tooth can cost up to $1000, a front tooth should be much less. a crown can cost from $750-1000 also. if you go to a dental school you will get better rates (and most of the time better treatment as well).
Reply:In the office where I work, (in Wyoming) a root canal on a molar is $700 and a crown is $720 or something. A root canal on a bicuspid is $440 ish and a root canal on an anterior, one-canal tooth is $400.

Do people have crowns or venners in Greece , Do they get dental work done there?

or do they all have nice teeth? Its the #1 county for Vegetables...Just curious because I know I never saw people in Greece with Venneers or crowns whenever we go? Thanks

Do people have crowns or venners in Greece , Do they get dental work done there?
Well, if they all had nice teeth it would be a miracle. ;)

I don't know how deeply you looked into people's mouth, but some Greeks have horrible teeth.

And of course, many have lovely teeth, but certainly some of those could be fake.

And greece might be the number one place for vegetables, but Greeks also eat a lot of sweets, croissants and pasta, true?
Reply:Of course people in Greece have crowns when it is necessary. I have one and I'm about to have another one. You know, except of vegetables, in Greece you can find very tasty swites.
Reply:Most tv personalities, singers and models have veneers but the 'average Joe' in Greece have awful teeth - worst that Brits!! and that's saying something! My brother-in-law's were so bad that the dentist had to remove ALL and he's 42! The older the person the less they were educated on dental hygiene. Thankfully schools are trying to instill the need for kids to learn and go to the dentist! My daughter told me she was the only kid that put her hand up to the 'Do you brush your teeth daily?' question!!!! (She's 8)

Greeks eat loads of sweet things!! Loaded with sugar!

Also going to the dentist can be a nightmare - the IKA dentists .. you have to wait for hours and the private ones cost an arm and a leg!
Reply:really so u ask people while u walk around greece " hey do u got crowns?" not all crowns r silver u know some are white and bland nicely with the color of teeth
Reply:Yes in Greece we have crowns and veneers and some good dentists. Telling the truth in my family both from my mother's site and father's, everybody has nice strong teeth, maybe it's the DNA. But many people suffer from dental problems. Very positive it's the fact that still in many places of Greece the drinking water is very good with lots of minerals. And l am happy to notice that more people are taking care of their dental health nowadays.

Why in the UK do they wear paper crowns on their heads at Xmas?

I was watching the movie "Notes on a Scandal." I noticed 2 different Christmas dinners where people were all wearing Tissue paper Crowns. Red, green, and I think another color. Why?

Why in the UK do they wear paper crowns on their heads at Xmas?
While there is a religeous symbolism as explained in other answers, I think the reason they are worn by most families is that the paper crowns come in the traditional "crackers" that accompany Christmas dinner. A Cracker is a tube wrapped in festive paper with twisted ends (like a tootsie roll, but bigger - toilet paper tube sized). It has a mild explosive in it - just enough for a loud bang and a bit of excitement - that is triggered when the ends are pulled apart. Crackers usually contain a bit of confetti, a small toy (like a plastic puzzle), sometimes a fortune (like in a fortune cookie, but more Brittish - a wish for the coming year), and always the paper crown.

Few Britts are truely religeous any more. I think they are worn more out of tradition and fun than anything else.
Reply:It's like the crown worn in Sweden on St. Lucia day, only without the candles.

Swedish families celebrate Saint Lucia Day on December 13th. The oldest daughter wears a white robe, a red sash, and a crown of lighted candles as she serves coffee and buns to other members of the family. Communities celebrate with Saint Lucia parades. Carols are sung in praise of the Queen of Light, who is said, brought hope at a dark hour.
Reply:I have always worn the paper crown at Christmas dinner and never once thought about the why.

I remember the year I couldn't find any crackers and thinking how it just wouldn't be Christmas dinner without the crown. I wonder if it represents the wise men, or it simply is a tribute the monarch. What a great question!
Reply:Lol! I live in the Uk and never really thought about it until you mentioned it-I thought everyone did it!!! I think its supposed to symoblise the crown of thorns that Jesus wore, although it seems to just be tradition here now. We get them in the crackers that we have at the table on Christmas Day, as well as usually a tacky plastic toy and a joke!!

Hope that helps!
Reply:Would you prefer to wear a Crown of Thorns? It's to symbolise Jesus as King.

Vaneers vs crowns? What is the difference?

I would like to have my bottom teeth fixed so that they don't look so crooked. I'm always hearing about vaneers - what is different about them from porcelain crowns and are they more or less expensive. Thanks.

Vaneers vs crowns? What is the difference?
With crowns, the entire tooth is shaved around so that there is space for a crown to fit on top of the tooth. With veneers, only the front of the tooth is shaved and the veneer only covers the face of the tooth.

Price probably ranges from area to area, but they are usually close in price.

Hope that helps.

What is the difference between crowns & veneers?

Crowns cover the entire tooth and veneers only the front and up the back of the tooth just slightly.

Are Root Canals and Crowns covered in the same price?

my girlfriends dentist, charged her $2,300 for 2 root canals, then the dentist wants to charge her another $2,000 for 2 crowns. The total work would cost around $5,000 and for some reason this seems a little high.

Are Root Canals and Crowns covered in the same price?
Well, it all depends on your location, but it is definitely within the limits. If she doesn't have insurance she could look into dental discount plans. The company that I rep for offers plans as low as $15 and covers dental, vision, prescription, chiro, and more. I could check to see if her dentist participates, and what the fees are before she decides to sign up and this could save her some money. Feel free to email me if you have any questions and would like me to check.
Reply:That sounds about right. Crowns are charged separately then root canals. They are two different procedures. If I were her I would have had the teeth out and a removable partial made, it would have been a lot healthier and more affordable. If she starts having health problems, she should buy the Root Canal cover-up book from amazon
Reply:When I was a dental assistant 3 years ago, crowns were about 800 a peice and root canals were about the same depending on how intense they were. So I'm sure prices have gone up and I live in an area where things are cheaper than most places. I would say that is probably right on. I would ask the dentist to give you a print out of the totally bill.
Reply:no. I worked as a dental nurse 10 ago and it is worked out by materials used, surfaces, lab work etc. It seems very high, but this will be private treatment and that is expensive.
Reply:you kind of answered your own question. Thanks for saving us time ;)

mmm...you have stained them...I wonder if that listerine with the whitening stuff in it would have any effect...I guess its worth a try....swish it around your mouth concentrating in the stained teeth...if that doesnt work I would give the dentists office a call and tell what you did...they may find it slightly amusing but I am sure they have had this happen to other patients and will offer assistance.

What is the way to get all crowns on your teeth? is that veneers? how much?

I have been having trouble with my teeth every since I had my son and daughter. I brush and floss reguarly. I was thinking of veneers? Does this help?

What is the way to get all crowns on your teeth? is that veneers? how much?
Veneers are strictly for esthetics and will ultimately jeopardize the overall health of your teeth. The margins between the veneer and your natural tooth is a very vulnerable place for plaque accumulation. Nothing is more solid for dental health than natural tooth structure. If you're just concerned with the way your teeth look veneers are generally a good solution for that. Depending on where you live the prices can vary, but I'd expect somewhere around 800 to 1000 per tooth.
Reply:veneers look real good but they are very expensive. Dental insurance does not pay for all of it. Talk to your dentist and see what he recommends.....

Can you have an MRI scan when you have white gold crowns on your teeth?

Any dental work is okay when you have a MRI. If your MRI is of your head, it may cause an artifact, but it will not harm you or the machine. If your MRI is of an area other than your head, there will be absolutely no consequences....If people with dental implants, fillings, crowns, braces etc could not have a MRI, think of the percentage of population who would be excluded!

I was wondering if Medicaid cover cosmetic dental work(crowns, implant)?

Not only will Medicaid not cover cosmetic work, but most private insurance companies don't, either. With the popularity of tooth whitening, everyone and their cousin is looking to get whitening covered by insurance, but just like implants or veneers, it's generally not covered. This is due in part to the fact that cosmetic surgery is never necessary. (For example- instead of an implant, you could get a bridge or a partial denture).

As for crowns, those are often covered by Medicaid, provided it's an anterior (front) tooth, and not a molar.

Good luck.

Medicaid does cover dental work, tha is deemed neccessary. If u need crowns, etc as decided by a dentist, than they will probably cover it.

Its hard in Iowa finding a dentist who will take Meidcaid, I don't know if other states have more dentists that accept it or not.

Dental question: I do not have any toothaches or pain but when I floss next to one of my crowns there is an?

odor. I was a dental assistant years ago and never heard of this. I floss sometimes twice a day and brush thoroughly twice a day. Have you heard of this?

Dental question: I do not have any toothaches or pain but when I floss next to one of my crowns there is an?
You may have existing decay under or around the crown that may not have reached the nerve.

Or it may be a piece of meat (food) stuck under a margin or something.

I would see my dentist to be sure.
Reply:You could have an abscess under the crown. That happened to me 2 years ago. It spread to my sinus and it took a month to clear up the infection. I had to have a root canal through the crown.

Anyone have experience with dental crowns?

I'm having crowns done in the entire front of my mouth (8 on top, 6 on bottom). The temporary crowns are horrible, I have sensitivity, can't eat most things, etc. Plus, now the whole process of fitting for the permanent crowns has been a nightmare. I've heard that the permanents are great, you can eat anything, look and function beautifully, no pain, etc.

Does anyone have any experience that they can share? Thanks.

Anyone have experience with dental crowns?
HELLO PEEPS,

I'M NOT SURE IF YOU'RE DESCRIBING FULL CROWNS OR VENEERS? MOST OF THE SENSITIVITY PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY TO COLD, CAN BE ALLEVIATED BY BRUSHING WITH A SENSITIVITY TOOTHPASTE LIKE SENSODYNE OR COLGATE FR SENSITIVE TEETH.

THE PERMANENT ONES ARE WORTH WAITING FOR, BUT IN THE MEANTIME TRY TO RINSE WITH LUKEWARM WATER WHEN BRUSHING, AND LIMIT THE ACIDIC FOODS/DRINKS.
Reply:I've had crowns on my molars and veneers/bonding on my front teeth. They look just like your real teeth, and there is nothing I can't eat. If they're done well, should be no difference from haing "real" teeth.
Reply:I've got two crowns and they are like real teeth.

Here's a nightmare for you. One of my temps fell out and I swallowed it.
Reply:I have 3 crowns. No problems and they look great.
Reply:I broke 2 of my temporary crowns eating (stale) crackers and then broke a third eating a muffin with nuts in it. I just had my permanent crowns placed last week, was doing okay for a few days, now I have incredible pain and tenderness on one front molar, will be back at the dentist tomorrow. I agree that they look and feel like normal teeth, but you most definitely cannot eat 'anything.' Also, don't bite down hard on soft items and try not to grind your teeth or lock your jaw - two of my major problems.
Reply:I had a permanent one put on today. I am afraid of dentists, my blood pressure goes up when I walk in. I have 4 now and they are all doing fine. My teeth are quite sensitive but I did not get any problems with the temporaries.
Reply:i have three crowns and one veener on my 4 front upper teeth and i have no problem whatsever! First they look awesome, i got so many compliments on them second i don't think twice what i am eating, i eat anything i have had them for over ten years now with no problem but i do really good oral hygine, i brush and floss after every meal! I got really good dentist to do thelm though, i checked so many dentist till i found the right one and it worth it! Good luck
Reply:I have ceramic crowns on most of my molars. I also have a gold crown on one upper molar. That one was done back in the days. All the crowns are permanent, perform their jobs in my mouth very well and look just like my other teeth (except for the gold one, lol). I haven't had any problems with any of them %26amp; it's been years.'
Reply:i have 20 crowns in my mouth -- all the front ones - 1 implant, another implant coming in 4 months and 1 2 crown bridge. when the first 6 up top/front were done - yeah they were a challenge with the sensitivity AND the temps were annoying as all get out. as long as you're getting the porcelin on porcelin and have a super dentist - they will be wonderful. i have people compliment me on my smile all the time - never did before.

i will warn you..... make sure you realize that you CAN still get cavities under crowns. invest in the sonicare toothbrush AND a waterpick. keep an eye on your gums. the good thikn about the poreclin crowns is if you do decay under, they canbe seen in an x-ray. the porcelin on metal crowns - can't see under those - trust me - had a tooth extraced today because the crown had come off becuase of decay and the decay had spread to the bone becuase i'd had a root canal and didn't realize it was decaying.

really though....your temp crowns shouldn't look horrible - only feel it in the back and the sensitivity is normal. you've just had a portion of th etooth removed and your roots are more exposed. the crown seating is a much less painful process!!! i'll recommend the dental tape too - instead of the regular floss.

I''M READING SOME OF YOUR OTHER ANSWERS....

1) CROWNS ARE NOT PERM. THEY HAVE ABOUT A 10-12 YEAR LIFE SPAN

2) I EAT EVERY AND ANYTHING AND HAVE NEVER CRACKED ONE OF THE PORCELIN ONES AND THEY ARE ABOUT 8 YEARS OLD.

3) BRUSH, FLOSS AND AVOID ANYTHING YOU WOULD WITH REGULAR TEETH

4) I CHEW REGULAR GUM - SUGARFREE OF COURSE WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.

get some fixodent to put one of the temps on in case it falls off -- it can and does happen - it's not a big deal.
Reply:if you are having alot of problems with your crowns i would suggest another dentist, it should not be that traumatic to have your crowns put in if they are being done properly.
Reply:If you are getting porcelain crowns, and I imagine if they are front teeth you are, then be prepared to take special care of them, porcelain will fracture, the longer you have them the more likely they will fracture. After ten years, every single one of my porcelain crowns (9) have fractured, broken, cost a fortune to replace. I believed the dentist when he told me that yes I could eat anything etc etc.....don't, really don't, crunch ice, or put anything harder than tender steak in your mouth. No hard candies, no lollipops, no icecubes or crushed ice, nothing that may cause the crown to fracture. Peanut brittle was my downfall.

Once the permanent crowns are in place, there should be no sensitivities (if root canals were done). Otherwise, you can still be sensitive to cold or hot. You will have minor swelling for a day or two after, I gargled and swished with mild salt water every morning and evening, the inflammation went pretty quickly. I had all my Porcelain crowns replaced with more durable gold crowns, and had a diamond inlaid in one.

Anybody have experience with multiple crowns?

I'm in the middle of cosmetic dental work and I'm getting very nervous. My dentist suggested getting multiple crowns instead of veneers (also needed a bridge) and I agreed but now I'm having second thoughts (although, too late, since they filed those teeth down to little nubs). I"m afraid that the crowns will be really uncomfortable since they fit over the whole tooth. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with multiple crowns and how they feel. Also, how sturdy are they since you lose so much natural tooth structure? Thanks!!!

Anybody have experience with multiple crowns?
I have 3 right in a row. they do feel like natural teeth after awhile.. you only have to be careful about biting into really hard things.. like apples, carrots, corn.. (mine were the front teeth)

and crowns usually need replacing sometime after 10 yers.. because they being to loosen up! mine are going on 11 years.. and they are telling me to replace them, but i'm not until they start hurting!

they are way to expensive!
Reply:I have multiple crowns and once they are in and fitted you will not even know that they are in your mouth. The crowns are very sturdy and will stay in your mouth for years.
Reply:I have 2 permanent crowns and they are doing very well. I got 8 and 9 done about 15 years ago and have had no problem with them. (8 and 9 are the two top center teeth) They are just like my regular teeth except you can see the metal in the back of them, but, only if you use a mirror.

I would recommend them to anyone who needs dental work, they look great and don't stain.

Good luck and keep smiling!

I have to get crowns put on my front 4 teeth. Anyone know how this works?

My dentist says it will have to be done in stages and that my teeth have to be shifted forward first. Does anyone know how they shift teeth forward? And will I look weird in between appointments with some work done but not all of it finished?

this should help

Reply:if you are getting crowns you don't have to wait for teeth to shift.he will reduce teeth size than place temp crowns. you will wear temps for about 3 to 4 weeks.when your crowns come in from the lab they will cement and polish .front teeth are very important make sure shade matches the rest of you teeth.
Reply:Hahaha! I went to post the same website and refreshed and saw that the other guy already did.

Good website for answering this question.

One of my feather dusters crowns is now coming out of the bottom of its tube nearest the sand is this normal?

Don't really understand your question,...SAND ? Sorry.

One of my feather dusters crowns is now coming out of the bottom of its tube nearest the sand is this normal?
Don't be surprised if it dissapears for a couple of days and pops up in a whole new tube somewhere else in your tank.

I have 3 of them in my reef tank and 2 of them did exactly that.

They are filter feeders and it is probably going to find a better water flow erea in your tank to feed.

Why can't you use crest white strips on crowns?

I want to use crest white strips for my teeth, except I have four crowns on the front of my top teeth and my dentist said I can't use it for crowns, any suggestions?

Why can't you use crest white strips on crowns?
He probably meant you can't whiten the crowns because they are made of porcelain. The color is permanent. If you whiten the teeth on either side of the crowns lighter than the crowns they will stick out and look really bad. If the teeth are darker on either side of the crowns bleach away! Try to keep the color the same all the way across for a more natural look.
Reply:Umm if they are metal crowns (which i doubt), they wont whiten them. If they are those white coloured crowns or dentures, they whiten at a different rate to normal teeth, and im pretty sure you dont want a white rainbow in ur mouth.

A tiny spot on the top of on of my dental crowns is silver. Is this okay?

It looks like a tiny speck of my white molar crown is missing because it looks silver. Is this okay or might it mean that there is a hole all the way down to the tooth?

I'm a dentist.

You have lost some of the porcelain covering the metal substructure of the crown. Rest assured, the tooth underneath is not exposed--at least not from that area.

One thing to consider, however: once the porcelain has completely chipped away in one area, you may find that it progresses until you start losing significant amounts of it and expose more of the metal.

It is purely a cosmetic issue at this point, but if you lose enough porcelain, the tooth may cease to be in occlusion with the opposing teeth.
Reply:u need to see yur dentist. there could be a number of things going on. If the crown is a PFM(porcelain fused to metal) it could either be receeding gums or a piece that has chipped away. u may need to have the crown replaced if very noticable.if you have it replced try a procera next time. it is an all porcelain crown.
Reply:a crown is a porcelain that is "painted" and then fired on a metal base, you may have chipped your crown. it could be a good idea to check with your dentist as you can chip or even crack it, so he can smooth it and try to avoid losing the procelaine. Teeth griding is the usual cause and a retainer can help
Reply:Call your dentist for the correct answer; it's best to be sure. It won't cost to call for the answer.
