How long do temporary crowns last?

My dentist re-cemented my temp crown two weeks ago. I now feel I need to shop for a new dentist as he does not like me to ask questions...wondering how much time I have to 'shop around' with this temporary on. I am mainly concerned about decay. The remaining tooth structure contains a deep cavity that he took the filling out of before putting the cap on...thanks for any info...

How long do temporary crowns last?
You have about 30-45 days from the time the tooth was "prepped" for the crown. That is pushing it and I wouldn't wait longer than that.
Reply:Temporary crowns are only meant to last as long as it takes or the lab to deliver the permanent crown back to the dentist. I have seen patients with temporary crowns on for months just because they can not afford to pay for the new crown. If you current dentist has already taken the impression and sent it to the lab to fabricate your new crown then you are sort of late the stage to look for a new dentist. I would wait until you complete treatment of this tooth with this dentist before going shopping. Other dentist don't like to complete the work of your previous dentist. They will most likely tell you to return to the office that started the work to finish the work.
