Are crowns durable? in what cases do they do crowns and how it is attached?

I am having root canal treatment to put a crown and I don't have any idea what is it going to be like. Dentist showed me some artificial tooth

but how is it going to be durable? How do they attach it on my real tooth???

Are crowns durable? in what cases do they do crowns and how it is attached?
a crown goes over the tooth that has been prepared. they remove any decay, and shape the tooth down to size a little then a crown is made to fit your prepared tooth.

the crown is made of metal, and on top of that is porcelain that is matched to the color of your tooth. they are very durable. i have had one for over 10 years now with no problems as all.

the temporary crown that you get while yours is being mad is made from a weaker material, and is not as durable as the permanent one. your doctor will let you know what ccautionsyou need to take is any. some doctors will ask you to avoid super hard food or candy, gum or flossing in that area untill the permanent one is on.
Reply:A tooth with root canal treatment is one of the indication for crown construction as the tooth becomes brittle, strong yes, but brittle, so veneering it protects it from being chipped or fractured, other indications include badly broken teeth, or constructing a bridge to restore extracted tooth by crowning the tooth before and tooth after it joining all with artificial tooth to restore the empty space, it is fixed in place by special cements, it is durable if it is well prepared and constructed, for more info contact as ahmadhashem41 at yahoo
