Is it possible to get white crowns?

I am getting a root canal on one of my molars on the bottom row.

I am 14 yrs old and do not like the idea of gold or silver being on the bottom row of my teeth because frankly it'll look gross.

Do they do white crowns? If so how much would it cost for 1 white crown.

Is it possible to get white crowns?
Yes there is such a thing as a 'white' crown. As you are under 16 and you are in the UK it should, oh hold, on wait a minute - you have to pay for dental treatment now don't you. Ah, er, I think that they are quite expensive, as in a few hundred pounds. If you have to pay for them that is.

You may not have to pay for the treatment, as you are under 16, but you usually don't get a choice in what you get. The porcelain crowns have to be made specially for you, which is why they are expensive. The tooth is ground down and a mould is taken, which is sent away. During the mean time you wear a cheap 'plastic tooth' About a week later the porcelain crowns arrive, the plastic tooth cap is removed and the ground down tooth is test fitted with the crown. If it doesn't quite fit then your tooth is ground down a bit more. Once it fits properly it's glued on.

I would have thought that a porcelain crown would be used rather than a gold tooth. (You don't see many people with gold teeth now do you.) Ask your dentist.
Reply:Absolutely!
Reply:You can but not on the NHS. Crowns and root canal are very expensive bill could be several hundred pounds
Reply:I got one the week before last and it was £325 from a private dentist. It's cheaper on the NHS and if you're lucky it's just as good.

You sound very American, so I'm hoping you've got lots of cash. The good news is it didn't hurt. Much. ;-)
Reply:erm the first answerer is not right,if you are 14 and are registered as a nhs patient you treatment is free love, wow your quite young to need root canal,if it is one of your front upper or lower teeth then yes the nhs should cover it,it is only usually back teeth that is not covered by nhs for white fillings or crowns or bridges, otherwise should be fine for you.
Reply:Yes, you can get a porcelain crown that will match your tooth enamel. The only problem is, because you are young, it is unlikely that your crown will match you regular teeth later in life. The cost of a porcelain crown is more than a "silver" or "gold" one, as well.
Reply:YES THEY MAKE WHITE CROWNS. IT COSTS ABOUT 850 DOLLARS FOR JUST THE CROWN ALONE.
