Maybe a silly question - Can whitening toothpaste whiten porcelain crowns whiter than their actual colour ?

Nothing, not even in office whitening will change the color of existing crowns and fillings. The crowns and white fillings used today are of materials that do not change color when bleached as their color is chosen and set in the material. To change the color of your restorations you'd have to get new ones.

No, unfortunetly they wont change...ever.

But, when in the future you do have them replaced, be sure to

1) whiten your natural teeth ahead of time, and that way a very close match can be made for your new crowns

2) make sure you request all "metal-free" crowns, not just porcelain fused to metal crowns where the metal is the base that "doesnt show" it can and most likely will show over time, as a greyish ring around the gums.
Reply:NO it can't.
