These lyrics are from Casting Crown's "Set Me Free" song, when Jesus is talking:
-Do you want to be free?
Lift your chains
I hold the key
All power on Heav'n and Earth belong to Me-
I'm looking for a verse where Jesus says something along those lines. Any help? Thanks to anyone who answers!
Can these words be found in the Bible? Or were they just created by Casting Crowns?
maybe around wherever he says "the truth shall set you free?" but i don't know where that part is either
Reply:paraphrases of Biblical texts:
"Do you want to be free" idea appears in many different places in the Bible:
When Jesus took up the scroll in the temple and read from the words of the prophet Isaiah (Luke 4:17-21), He read this far:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor;he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted,to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind,to set at liberty them that are bruised,to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Isaiah 61: 1-2a
Then He closed the book, returned it to the minister, and sat down. All eyes were upon Him, and He told them,
This day is THIS scripture fulfilled in your ears.
Isaiah 61:1
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners;
18"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor Luke 4:18-19
"I hold the key:" could refer to "hold captivity captive," part of a Messianic prophecy.

And --"All power on heaven and earth belong to me" might have been taken from Revelations: "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, wisdom, riches and strength," OR perhaps from the Psalms: "The Earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof."
And here in Christ's own words is where he says that he has been given all authority :

Reply:John 8:31,32; ' ... So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “ If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.'
Matthew 28:18; ' ,,, and Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “ All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.'
Ephesians 1:20,21; ' ... which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
Reply:You have to narrow it down. From this point all I could say is 'read the Bible', but you already have that bit.
Keyword search?
"I am the way, and the truth, and the life."
"The wages of sin is death."
"All authority has been given to me."
"He who believes these sayings of mine, and DOES (e.a.) them..."

Reply:It is a parallelism of some words Jesus said, and some ideas made from some other words Jesus said.
The four Gospels in the New Testament will bring you to the words and teachings that parallel the song.

Reply:They were made up, but Jesus said lay down your burdens, and he says he holds all the power or something like that. Sorry, I always mess up quotes.
Reply:It is a weak paraphrase with artistic license
Reply:Revelation 1:18
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Try reading all of Revelation, chapter one.
Reply:Matt 28:18 looks like a start. (check out the on line concordance)
