Does it hurt to have temporary crowns removed?

A few months ago my two front teeth got badly chipped in an accident at work and FINALLY tomorrow is the day I'm getting the permanent crowns put on (along with veneers on 4 other teeth). Anyway, I've never had any trouble with my temporary crowns, never any pain or discomfort and my nerves weren't exposed when the teeth were chipped in the first place. I'm just getting a little bit nervous about what I should prepare myself to face tomorrow morning (besides sitting in that chair for a lonnnnng time, lol). I'm not worried about the veneers at all, it's just the removal of the temporary crowns that really makes me a little nervous. So if anyone has any advice or warning for me just so I know what to expect... that would be super.

Does it hurt to have temporary crowns removed?
I'm a dental assistant, and in the office I work, the dentist will give anesthetic to remove a temporary crown (unless the tooth has a root canal). The process of removing the crown shouldn't hurt because i expect they used temporary cement, which usually comes off easily. However, the teeth can be very sensitive to cold water or the gums can be irritated a little bit and they can be sensitive to clean all the cement off... so in that case, the dentist may administer anesthetic for your comfort. Good luck with your dental work, I hope you like your new smile!
Reply:temp crowns are placed w/temp cement, so they come off very easy. you'll just feel a little force/pressure as they are wiggled off, but no pain will be felt at all. you'll think your tooth is being yanked out, but it's nothing but a little tug to get out the temporary, it takes a lot more force to actually pull a tooth out-so just relax and open wide! hope you enjoy your veneers:)
Reply:Removing the temorary crowns is the easyest part of all. They will be out before you know it.I have done it for years and nobody ever said that i hurt them.If you are very nervous, ask them to numb you before they do it.Good luck.
Reply:Not painful. I've had it done 3 times. You feel a pulling sensation, but your tooth isn't going to come out, just the temp. It wasn't anywhere close to the big deal I thought it would be. Tell the dentist you're a little nervous about it so he can be as gentle as possible.
Reply:No it will not hurt I had 3 temp did not feel anthing. Good luck

with ur need teeth.
Reply:I can't recall anything particular special about having a temporary crown removed, and I've spent about half my life (OK, that's a slight exaggeration) in the dentist's chair.

Since it's temporary, they don't use as strong a cement as for a permanent crown.
Reply:Not at all. The dentist will just use his long tweezers and pry it off suprisingly easy. It will just be a bit sensitive. I have had this done twice.
Reply:No, not painful at all. U do feel them taking it out like u'll feel ur teeth is uncovered but no pain whatsoever. U might feel an "empty" spot when they remove it and replace it w/the permanent ones if u touch it w/ur tongue. But nope, the most non-painful thing at the dentist. I have two. And gladly this procedure than anything else. Lol.
