Why are the crowns I recently had installed on my teeth so sensitive to cold?

It's been about 3 weeks since installed, will it subside?

Were your teeth sensitive to cold before the crown prep appointment? If so your tooth may have been in the process of dying before the crowns and is just now symptomatic.

If your teeth were not sensitive until AFTER the crowns were placed, then there are a few possibilities:

1) occlusion is high (go to dentists and have him adjust bite)

2) open margin (crown not completely sealed, not likely)

3) tooth may need root canal (endodontic therapy, sounds unlikely if it is multiple teeth that are sensitive to cold.)

High bite (high occlusion) is a common cause of sensitivity after getting a crown.
Reply:FYI,,

WHEN THE CROWNS WERE PREPPED, THE DENTIST HAD TO REDUCE THE TEETH BY GRINDING SO THAT THE NEW CROWS WOULD FIT.

SOMETIMES TOO MUCH OF THE TOOTH IS DRiLLED AWAY MAKING THE TOOTH SENSITIVE TO COLD.

THIS EVENTUALLY IMPROVES AFTER A FEW WEEKS.
