What happens when they put crowns in at the dentist?

what do they do exactly/ ? AND DO they numb your mouth for this procedure?

What happens when they put crowns in at the dentist?
yes they numb it real well. If you have a good dentist they will also give you gas to breathe in that will relax you. A crown is just replacing the top layer of your tooth. It is not a bad procedure. You will just feel numb for a while afterwards.
Reply:tHEY NUMB YOUR GUMS WITH A NEEDLE AND THATS NOT AS PAINFUL AS IT SOUNDS BUT THATS IT
Reply:First they a root canal, which they do numb you for, and they just drill off the top of your tooth and then kill all the nerves and drill them out and fill your tooth in and then a few weeks later they put on a crown, which I doubt is painful and I am not sure if you are numbed or not but I am having one put on this coming Wednesday, so I could let you know! lol.

but the root canal was scary but not painful, they numbed me up VERY well. lol! =)
Reply:Yes, they give you a shot of novocain.

Putting in a crown is done in two visits. The first visit the dentist shapes the tooth down to a little peg. Then they take an impression. Then he puts a temporary crown on it. He sends the impression to a lab that will make the permanent crown.

In the second visit, the dentist cements on the permanent crown and cleans up the adhesive that squeezes out all around the edges.

In both visits, a lot of work is done around the edges of the tooth. The crown covers the tooth down to below the gum line so it won't allow bacteria to get in there and cause cavities underneath the crown. This makes your gums kind of sore. That's why you get a shot both times to deaden the area. It's still a little sore when the novocain wears off.
