Question about having crowns put on my teeth?

Tomorrow I go to the dentist to get crowns for my four front teeth. Tomorrow they have me down for an hour appointment. Then in two weeks, they have me down for two hours. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what they do during the first and second appointments? I never had them done before so I'm a bit nervous!

Question about having crowns put on my teeth?
4 teeth crowned is a big procedure. Different dentists break up appointments in different ways but this sounds like the first appointment might be preparing the teeth by shaving down the teeth just enough on every side to allow space for the crowns, and being that it is your front teeth they may want to have time to make really nice temporary crowns. The second visit would be for taking impressions of all four teeth. Either that or they may decide to do two teeth at a time. Each dentist has a certain way they like to do things and crown are a very precise thing so they usually give themselves plenty of time to do it just right.

The other case scenario is they might be able to get all 4 teeth prepped, impressed and temporary crowns made in the first visit and the second visit two weeks later may be the insertion appointment. How's that for confusing???:o) Good luck.
Reply:The first appointment, they deaden the area and they dentist files off all the bad part of the tooth, leaving a stub for the crown to attach to. Then they use a molding clay to get the exact size and spacing for the crowns. You have to bite down on a nasty tasting goop for about 5 minutes.

Then they will put temporary crowns on the teeth to keep them from being too sensitive while you wait for the permanent ones to get built.

The second appointment places the crowns in the mouth and uses a permanent glue to keep them in. The dentist may also do a little filing and shaping to be sure the new teeth are comfy and well fitted.
Reply:I got two crowns a few months ago. For the first appointment, they file down your teeth and take molds, then they apply a temporary crown.

It takes a few weeks for the permanent crown (made from the mold) to be made. During the second appointment, they remove the temp crown and install the permanent crown. They numb you up so you don't feel anything. Don't worry, it'll be fine. Just remember to keep the temp crown clean (i.e. brush yer teeth).
Reply:Tomorrow the will prepare your teeth for a permanent crown by filing some of your natural tooth structure down and the n they will make you a temporary crown for your teeth you will not leave without any teeth.
